Maypole Faire is a name for a space that came about by engaging with the depths of my imagination around the time of December 2021. Society seemed to have gone mad then, so I tended towards more frequent opportunities to enjoy good company in the solitude of nature. I prayed often for guidance and for the world. I came to understand a palpable need for being better grounded in culture and myth to keep from being reflexively swain about by the world during that time. To have deep roots and a broad center. To think in spans of time hundreds of years into the past and future, rather than for disjointed seconds and minutes on social media. To have a soul to bear and meaning to pursue. Most of all, for plenty of kith and kin to gather round into old ago for friendship, love and mirth.

This website is a project for connecting and networking with wellness oriented and conscientious people in the Truckee/Tahoe/Reno areas, as well as a promotional space for events and gatherings in the (hopefully) near future. Maypole Faire is a work in progress, and new content will be added whenever I feel inclined to make additions or revisions.
Kind regards, and thanks for your interest.

For anyone who has noticed, I like to play with symbols. The name of this website, as well as much of the content and stories are symbolic. Some of that has been intentional and some has been happenstance. I’m not at all religious, but I see merit and value in many religious teachings and moral practices through direct experience. The boat metaphor comes to mind in Mahayana Buddhism, or what C.S. Lewis described as Mere Christianity. The religious and moral teachings are a vessel for delivery, not the destination.
This site is intended in large part as a project for making peace and amends with my place of birth. Most of Northern California all but discarded values of tradition, culture, family and individual rights for a few years following 2020. That was a highly divisive time that appears to have been since swept under the rug. My hope for much of the content of this site is to ease tensions and restore harmony with old friends and family. To forgive those who have done me wrong and make amends with those who I have fallen out with. I often rake in doing so, but aim for catharsis.
Looking to the future, I aim to do my own part to resurrect and restore the 1960’s vision of California and the West. To help make it a place for peace, love, as well as freedom of thought and expression. A place of social and economic dynamism. A place the entire world can to look to as a beacon of light. A place of equality under laws of the people, with fairness and opportunity for all.
